The 101 Balikpapan Regency Hotel
Located in Balikpapan, a vast developed city with mineral companies established their outpost there, this 4 star hotel project accommodate specific market for expatriates and business purposes.
Because of significant topography like most Balikpapan terrains, there are three levels on ground of the building : The ground floor (hotel lobby and restaurant), basement 1 (parking and back-of-the-house), and basement 2 (parking and utilities). The concept for the facade is to replicate Balikpapan's mountainous landscape. using aluminum fins, the top was cut to create sloping silhouette. The triangular shape is repeated on the tower facade module and the building crown. The local influence is strengthen with traditional Dayak pattern embossed on the fins. Locality is one of the strong points on the building design. This is why several elements of the interiors is also crafted using the same Dayak pattern and wooden material, regarding Kalimantan as the haven for tropical forest.
